When you grow a garden, you have a gift to yourself and others. There are so many ways to give the love of your garden to others and to experience the giving that inspires you to continue and do more. Just imagine a bouquet of herbs from your garden as a gift. The practicality, fragrance and joy is obvious; but that it can bring a smile and some inspiration to someone is priceless.
A rose is not just a rose ... it's an inspiration and expression of love ... Hattie Hilton planted this rose plant that grows to over 6 feet tall and it has survived for more than 50 years ... we think it's closer to 100 years. This is a legacy of love. It's at the entrance to The Victory Garden Foundation's education and demonstration garden.
Look what just bloomed the second day of Spring. The first ... a single Sterling rose.
We continue to nurture this plant and each year it just gets better! It's just a small part of a neighborhood of roses that have been shared over the years and the neighbors continue to grow and share.
The Victory Patch is just a small patch of history, sharing and establishing a legacy of growers that share the experience of growth with each other ... family, friends, children, acquaintances and co-workers. If anything is constant, it's the love of watching something and someone growing to be something or someone that had a foundation to grow to potential.
Growing in a container on your porch/balcony/stairs or growing in ground; you'll enjoy countless moments of awe and joy. The rewards are great. Grow for the gift to you and to others. It's a beautiful thing!
